School Council

Our school council is made up of children from Key Stage 1 and 2. In July we hold elections for our council.  This is run in a similar way to a Polling Station with signs, names on a register and ballot boxes.  We try to make this experience as close to the one they will get when they actually have to go to a Polling Station, to teach them what to expect.  We don’t ask for ID though!  The interested children write anonymous manifestos that are read by the teacher and the children base their votes on what they hear.  We have a chair and secretary, during our meetings we invite the Collective Worship Leaders and Green Ambassadors to join us so that we all know what we are doing.  The School Council have worked with the headteacher and children to support the curriculum development.  They have raised issues and facilitated change of elements of the school that they have noticed could be better.  Our chair is in her second year of School Council and is accomplished in leading the fortnightly meetings.

They have also raised money for the Dogs Trust and NSPCC already this year through a variety of sales organised entirely by them.
