PHONICS
Phonics Intent
It is our intention, at Collingbourne Primary School, that all children have the opportunity to engage in the joy of the written word. Through the use of a systematic phonics programme, all children will be guided through the phonic phases, towards the goals of independent, joyful reading and writing. They will learn the 44 grapheme-phoneme correspondences, used in English. They will learn the phonic exceptions and alternatives. They will learn common words that cannot be decoded; the tricky words. They will also be taught correct letter formation as each grapheme is introduced.
