Computing

Computing Intent

It is our intention that children at Collingbourne School will leave Year 6 highly skilled and knowledgeable in Computing. They will be able to demonstrate computing specific skills and knowledge in areas such as coding. They will also be able to utilise a variety of hardware and software to be confident, independent and creative learners. Our Computing curriculum will not stand alone but be cross-curricular so that children can use their knowledge and skills in all subjects, even the outdoor curriculum such as Forest School. They will be able to use tools such as Microsoft Teams, Word, Powerpoint and Excel to find, explore, analyse, exchange and present information. It is also our intent that they will enjoy this and find it inspiring!

Our curriculum will be truly bespoke to our community and our first-class facilities. Children will be taught how to access the laptop trolleys, where the school Wifi points are and they will understand how they are working in the Cloud.

At Collingbourne we want our children to be a key driver in the curriculum. Children in Key Stage 2 will actively participate in the design of applications and our links with Cloud Based Computing support will allow us to facilitate the building of those apps. Children will understand and participate in a design to market ready product process.

Before children leave our school, they will visit the Cloud server in London so that they can understand the data server infrastructure that they benefit from. They will be inspired to see Collingbourne’s data sat alongside the like of Mercedes and Playstation!

Our children will love Computing and be inspired by the opportunities it can offer them. However, they will also be critical thinkers, aware of the safeguarding issues that come with Computing. They will be highly aware of online safety and will know how to respond if something worries them.
